Don’t miss the deadline: tax appeal info

Don’t miss the deadline: tax appeal info

On Thursday, the Fulton County Assessors announced that they will not offer comprehensive relief from the higher values in 2017 assessment notices.

The Assessors did agree to:

Fix errors in frozen values by reinstating frozen property values for approximately 1,800 property owners whose values should have remained frozen as a result of a previous appeal;

Review values in certain neighborhoods where “gentrification is an issue” although they did not state the specific neighborhoods to be reviewed;

Send notices to all applicants for homestead exemption regarding the status of their exemption within 2 weeks.

Here’s what your clients need to know:

The deadline for filing is stated on the Notice of Assessment and is purportedly extended to July 10, 2017 (we recommend filing by the deadline on the Notice);

They can file an appeal using the online form HERE

They don’t need to hire a tax consultant to file the appeal and preserve the right to pursue an appeal. There are many companies who provide this service. You but may decide to hire someone at any time during the process to represent you;

Campbell & Brannon has a tax appeal division and they can discuss the merits of hiring a tax consultant with Evans Hale (ehale@campbellandbrannon.com) or Jacoby Elrod (jelrod@campbellandbrannon.com) or go to the Campbell & Brannon web site for more information www.campbellandbrannon.com about our services.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the Notice of Assessment or filing an appeal.
